The Bohol Beach Club (Review)

The Bohol Beach Club is the first resort to be established in the beautiful island province of Bohol in the Philippines. It is situated on one of the most beautiful beaches on Bohol’s Panglao island. Blessed with gorgeous views of the sea with two distinct hues of blue, and white powdery sand; this is the perfect resort for honeymooning couples, or to get away for some alone time.

Overview
A recent refurbishment has divided the original resort into two separate resorts; and the Bohol Beach Club now has 88 rooms with a choice of the deluxe rooms in the buildings behind the resort, or the beachview suites, located by the beachfront.

The stretch of Dumaluan Beach that Bohol Beach Club faces is a private beach for hotel guests only, but is open to the public for a few hours in the day for a price. Despite that, the beach is almost completely empty and there’s always a quiet corner available for some peaceful sun time.

Why Bohol Beach Club?
There are many choices of resorts on Bohol island, and after doing my research, I decided to go for one that was relatively secluded, on a beautiful private stretch of beach, but still not too far away from the action.

Another reason I chose the Bohol Beach Club was because for a premiere resort, the price was pretty decent at approximately PHP8,500-13,000 (US$200-300) per night. I wanted the pampering and the luxury but at the same time knew that I wouldn’t be spending much time inside the hotel room– I’ll be out enjoying the sun and looking for new adventures.

I’m glad I made this choice, everything was exactly as I could have wished for. Privacy, great service and attention to detail; I got a cookie and a little note every night.

Arriving at the Resort
I was greeted as soon as I got out of Tagbilaran Airport, and immediately ushered to my waiting vehicle. I was hungry as I arrived in the city around noon, and the driver recommended a delicious seafood restaurant for me to have lunch. It was an excellent suggestion. I had the biggest, juiciest and meatiest crab I’ve ever had at “The Heritage Crab House”.
Address: Venancio P. Inting Avenue, Tagbilaran City, Bohol

The airport, located at Tagbilaran city, the capital city of Bohol, is about half an hour’s drive away from the resort. It was a relatively smooth drive as most of the roads through the villages are paved. Check-in was quick and easy, and before I knew it, I was lounging under the sun, shaded by the row of palm trees that line the resort.

The Bohol Beach Club Experience
For my entire stay at the Bohol Beach Club, I experienced wonderful Boholano hospitality. The staff were excellent, always with a smile and a greeting, and were ever willing to help. I had trouble connecting to the wifi on the first day; and the front desk sent the resort’s engineer to help me solve the problem.

The resort has two restaurants; but only the main one is open for all-day dining. While I was there, a wedding took place in the second restaurant– it was a grand affair. Though music, chatter and dancing lasted throughout the night; the management was considerate enough to leave us a note to inform us about the event and apologized for the inconvenience.

I had breakfast at the resort the 3 days I was there, and managed to sample their dinner menu too. The breakfast spread changed from day to day– but unfortunately, there wasn’t much variety. Dinner on the other hand, was enjoyable. I ordered several dishes from their Filipino cuisine menu, and loved every one of them. Special mention goes out to their Kare-kare.

The Bohol Beach Club offers a decent variety of water sports activities– kayaking, wind surfing, snorkeling and diving. Included in my room rates was a free 20-minute glass bottom boat ride, so I took the opportunity to admire the coral reefs just a little away from the resort’s beachfront. Swimming towards the reefs is possible– but only if you are a strong swimmer. The waves are strong and there is a deep drop just after the safety buoy lines. If you prefer, the resort also offers tours like dolphin watching, island hopping and swimming with the whale sharks, as well as countryside tours.

There are several visitors in Bohol Beach Club during the day and they come mainly to relax by the resort’s beach and swim in the turquoise sea. To maintain their guest’s exclusivity, the resort reserves several beach facilities and pool deckchairs for guest use only. I preferred the hammocks, though!

A short mention about the rooms– basic rooms with basic amenities and a regular-sized bathroom.

The only downside of the resort for me was that it was expensive to get to other places on the island. The transport rates charged by the resort was exorbitant and unnecessary; especially when my destination was only 10 minutes away.

At the End of the Day
The Bohol Beach Club is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It gives you peace and privacy, with all the facilities you need. There are a couple other resorts on this stretch of Dumaluan beach, so you have the option to resort hop for more choices of restaurants and spas. However, if you’re looking to explore the rest of Bohol or Panglao, or bask in the little nightlife the island has– though it isn’t far, getting to it is costly.

Stay here if doing nothing all day is in your list. This resort is about rest and relaxation during the day; and listening to the sound of the waves while watching the stars at night.

  1. Looks absolutely amazing. Even though not being really cheap, it seems like a good price for a nice luxury ressort. I hope you enjoyed your day to the utmost!
