Pulau Langkawi is located about 30km off the coast on the northwest of Peninsular Malaysia, and is known as the “Jewel of Kedah”. It is a popular island destination due to its mix of tropical rainforest and beautiful beaches; as well as an interesting history, a variety of accommodations, and plenty of fun activities.
I visited Langkawi for a couple of days with fellow blogger Wilson Ng from www.placesandfoods.com. We were on a mission to explore the wonders of the island, in colloboration with Malaysia Airlines. During our visit, Agoda put us up for a night at Nadias Hotel.
The Nadias Experience
Nadias Hotel is one of the latest additions (March 2016) to the many affordable hotels congregated around the bustling Cenang area. The 3-star hotel is a plain rectangular-shaped building located at a pretty strategic location along the busy Cenang street— it is next to the Cenang Mall, and is just a quick walk to the popular Cenang Beach.
Nadias Hotel is also close to several tourist attractions. The Langkawi Underwater World and the Laman Padi rice fields can be reached by foot; and some of Langkawi’s historical sites are just a short 5-10 minute drive away.
After a quick check-in process at Nadias Hotel, we made our way to our rooms ourselves. We had requested for a room at the back of the resort, as music from the pub at Cenang Mall can be heard at some of the front rooms. There are 136 rooms in the hotel, lined-up in two straight rows over 4 floors.
My room was the Deluxe King room, and the window faced the side of another building— so there was nothing much to see. The room was clean and simple; with the usual facilities like a king-sized bed, air-conditioner, television, fridge, study table, kettle, hot-water shower and some bathroom amenities. Prices start at about RM130 (~US$30) for room only on Agoda.
The Food, Service and Facilities
Breakfast at Nadias Hotel is served from 7am to 10am at a small restaurant in the lobby area. They serve a pretty adequate buffet spread with a few different varieties everyday; from Asian (like noodles and nasi lemak) to continental selections (sausages, baked beans, ham). There is also a salad bar, cereals, porridge, fruits and a made-to-order egg counter; as well as a couple of fruit juices, tea and coffee.
Nadias Hotel has a small and decent indoor swimming pool at the back of the building, which is perfect for the rainy days in Langkawi. The hotel helps with local tours and transport, and there are also some limited carpark spaces in front of the hotel should you be driving. Service throughout the hotel was fairly commendable.
End of the Day
Due to its strategic location in Cenang, Nadias Hotel makes a good base to get to some of the famous tourist attractions in Langkawi, and is just a step away from plenty of dining options. The hotel is a no-frills, basic and affordable accommodation (especially if you’re looking for a budget island trip but with some comfort). It’s good for a night’s sleep, and then you’ll be up again the next morning either exploring all that the island has to offer, or lounging under the sun on its many beaches.
