I was recently invited on a media trip to experience a weekend staycation in the 5-star Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur Managed by Banyan Tree. Here’s a write-up of my time in the hotel, living it up luxuriously in the city!

Overview

The Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur Managed by Banyan Tree is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. It strategically stands 13 floors above the award-winning Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping mall, which I really think is one of the best features of the hotel. The huge mall is filled with a whole array of shopping, dining and entertainment choices — and during my stay, I absolutely loved the fact that I could go on a shopping spree and then rest my tired feet in my own hotel room after I’m done!

What’s more, the Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur is right smack within the bustling Bukit Bintang, and is close to some of the city’s most popular attractions. Guests can spend the day visiting the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower; and then come night, dine at the Jalan Alor food street and party it up in the bars and nightclubs of Changkat Bukit Bintang. All within walking distance from the hotel.

The Pavilion Experience

As I live in Kuala Lumpur — my weekend at the Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur was a staycation in the city. And even though I was there on a media trip; there’s just something about spending a night in a luxurious hotel that is super exciting. A vacation is still a vacation no matter how near or far!

After parking my car at the hotel car park, I took the elevator up to the 8th floor of the hotel, where the reception lobby is located. Check-in was relatively simple, and while waiting for registration to be done, I was kept comfortable with a cold towel and a drink. The lobby of the hotel is really spacious with cushy sofas and chairs, and pretty dangling fairy lights; and of course, a lovely view of the city. In no time I was handed my room key card — and then it was time to check out my room.

The Rooms

The Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur has a total of 325 rooms spread out in its 13 floors. The rooms are divided into the City Oasis (with city views), the Courtyard Oasis (with courtyard views), the Grand Oasis (with either city or courtyard views), the Urban Studio that comes with a grand bathtub, the Club rooms with Club Lounge access, and of course the suites — the Urban Suite, the Pavilion Suite and the luxurious Presidential Suite.

My room was the Grand Oasis room, and because it was right at the corner — I had beautiful views of the courtyard, and the bustling Jalan Bukit Bintang down below. I really enjoyed spending time just lazing on the comfortable bedding in my pretty batik-printed robe. The room also comes with a comfy armchair with a coffee table; and work table with wifi to get some ‘writing’ done, and of course, the fully equipped bathroom with a rain shower. And during my stay, I also got the chance to dip in the gorgeous round bathtub at the Urban Studio with floor to ceiling glass windows. Oh how I love beautiful bathtubs!

The Restaurants

And now, food! While at the Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur, I got to dine at all their signature restaurants. For breakfast, the buffet meal comes together with the rooms and is served at The Courtyard. With a choice of dining indoors or outdoors, they serve a full spread of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Western breakfast cuisine — so I had my choice of anything my morning heart desired. The restaurant offers buffet meals throughout the day, and has a comprehensive a-la carte menu in the evening.

At night, I had the opportunity to dine at Ebisu, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant and bar located on Level 8.  It features Japanese cuisine with a twist on their innovative menu — and I had the choice to either have my meal at the sushi bar, the teppanyaki bar, or at the main dining area. As I was there on a media trip, we were served a pre-arranged menu that features some of the restaurant’s best dishes. We had a starter with deep fried sesame curd, half boiled egg and simmered spinach with bonito sauce; a clear broth soup with prawn, sea bream and chicken in a tea pot; a salmon, yellow tail and sweet prawn sashimi plate; chawanmushi egg custard; a seafood trio of salmon, prawn and scallop teppanyaki; a bowl of rice with salmon served with salmon roe; and a dessert ice cream in green tea, sesame and yuzu flavors. It was divine!

And then I ended the night at the hotel’s Whisky Cove — and just as its name implies, is a haven for whisky lovers (or beer, or cocktails or wine, if you prefer). The bar has a cozy, comfortable atmosphere; and you can either choose to enjoy your glass in private, with a view, or at the bar. I really enjoyed ordering from the list of signature cocktails; and even requested the ever so friendly bartenders to mix a special one that I could name after me!

And for some city relaxation — head to the award-winning Banyan Tree spa.

The Club Lounge gives those in the club rooms, a little exclusivity.

Facilities and Services

The Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur has lots of facilities for an enjoyable staycation. There’s the signature Banyan Tree Spa to get some pampering, especially with their traditional Asian healing therapies. As my trip was only a one night trip, I didn’t make a visit to the spa — I spent my evening at the pool instead! The rooftop infinity pool on level 18 might be a little small; but it does feature a panoramic view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline. And honestly, unless its a staycation, I hardly ever have time to lounge at a pool in the middle of the city! Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur also features a gym with magnificent views, the Pavilion Ballroom and meeting rooms, and a Banyan Tree retail shop.

During my visit, I was granted access to the exclusive Club Lounge that provides snacks, refreshments and cocktails to guests staying in the club rooms and suites. Located on the 14th floor, I dropped by for some evening cocktails and canapes — and perhaps had one too many glasses of bubbly!

At the End of the Day

From its fantastic location, to the lovely rooms and delicious restaurants — I have to say that it is a pretty solid choice of accommodation to stay when visiting Kuala Lumpur. That is, if you’re looking for some luxurious living (and especially if you plan to lavish yourself with a whole lot of retail therapy), while being in the center of all the bustling city has to offer.

I really enjoyed my lovely weekend staycation at the Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur Managed by Banyan Tree. And if I do head back again for another staycation, I shall make sure to head to the Banyan Tree shop and get myself that comfy (and oh so pretty) black and white batik-detailed robe; and order another glass of the Whisky Cove’s Smoked Pear Manhattan signature cocktail!
