Video: She Walks the World at the Movie Premiere of Suatu Ketika Langitkan Impian Mu

We take a break from the traveling for a little life story.

10 years ago (in 2009) I started a production house in Malaysia called Kash Pictures. My business partner was an aspiring director, and I (back then) was an aspiring actress and scriptwriter. All we wanted to do was to make movies, and because opportunities offered were few and far between — we decided to create the opportunities for ourselves.

Throughout the years we did lots of television shows, telemovies and commercials — but what we ultimately wanted to do was make a movie. For the big screen. We wrote the draft for what was to be our first movie in 2011 — and began the process of pitching to get it to the Malaysian cinemas. It was a long and tiring process, but the relentless director of Kash Pictures never gave up (I did, a few times). After many many years of trying to obtain some finances to begin our dream, we finally managed to secure a small development fund (from MDec) to begin work on a small featurette in 2015.

With that, we had a better proposal — and in 2016, finally managed to convince the the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) to believe in our vision. We began pre-production at the end of the year and into 2017; shot the movie for 41 days in 2017; and spent the rest of 2018 on the post-production of our movie. My role in this movie — the producer, the casting director, the co-scriptwriter. And to fulfill a childhood dream of being in a movie, I gave myself a tiny non-speaking role!

We are so thankful for the people who believed in us and stood by us, the amazing team of Kash Pictures who never gave up, my parents for their neverending support, and all the Malaysian organizations who helped fund and promote this movie. And of course, our distributors, GSC Movies. Thanks for showing me that patience and perseverance pays off — especially when I was on the verge of giving up.

And on the 12th September 2019, “Suatu Ketika Langitkan Impian Mu” opens. To 99 Malaysian cinemas nationwide. To entertain you. To make you cry. To take you back to a time gone by where life was simple, yet we were united. To remind you that it’s not easy to win, but it’s okay to fail. Because that’s how we get back up. We hope that you see someone you know in the characters of the movie; and when it ends, tell them you love them. This is a movie about our family, friends, and our beloved nation, Malaysia.

And here’s a behind-the-scenes video I did on our movie gala premiere held last week on the 4th of September. I wanted something to remember this momentous occasion, this first movie, this dream come true, this closing (and a beginning for most) of a chapter for me.

Thank you for being a part of our journey.

And while you’re at it, watch the trailer too — and hopefully, we can one day show it internationally too!
