Lantana Hoi An Boutique Hotel, Vietnam (Review)

I was spoiled for choice while looking for a hotel in Hoi An. The beautiful ancient city is one of Vietnam‘s most popular tourist destinations, and that meant a myriad of accommodations to pick and choose — from luxury and boutique hotels, to the old-school and backpacker type hostels; by the beach, beside the river, or in the old town. After weighing my choices, I decided on the lovely Lantana Hoi An Boutique Hotel.

Overview
The Lantana Hoi An Boutique Hotel had everything I wanted for my stay in town — location, views, and affordable price. The lovely boutique hotel is located just next to the hustle and bustle of the ancient town area of Hoi An, but still far enough for some peace and quiet.

Pretty flowers and lush greenery adorn the hotel’s white exterior walls, entrance arch and front courtyard, giving the modern hotel a cozy atmosphere in the day, and an illuminating one at night. The river views of the Hoai River that runs in front of the hotel adds to the allure.

The Lantana Experience
I arrived at the Lantana Hoi An from the nearby city of Danang, and was immediately greeted at the entrance by the concierge. They helped me with my bags; and during check-in, I was served cold towels and a welcome drink. I was also given a short brief on the facilities offered at the hotel before being escorted to my room.

Throughout my stay, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They helped arrange my morning trip to the ruins of My Son (and packed my breakfast for me), gave me good recommendations and directions to navigate the ancient town of Hoi An, and assisted with my return airport transfer for US$20 per way.

The Rooms
The boutique hotel boasts 37 beautifully appointed rooms in 4 types — superior, deluxe, superb deluxe and the family suite. I booked the Superior Room for VND1million (US$45) a night, via Agoda. My air-conditioned room was tastefully furnished with lush comfy beds, a wardrobe, flat-screen cable TV, and green quilts and cushions to go with the green painting on the wall. I liked the matching tiled flooring, as well as the brass shower and tap heads in the bathroom. There was even a brass antique telephone by my bedside!

My room had a large full-length window to admire the views outside (mine overlooked a side lane, so there wasn’t much to see), but the other room types come with balconies facing the river. All rooms come with complimentary wireless internet access.

Facilities and Services
The Lantana Hoi An has just enough facilities and services for a fuss-free boutique stay. I had a wonderful breakfast spread every morning — I especially enjoyed the Vietnamese bite-sized treats. The hotel provides a free shuttle to An Bang Beach 3 times a day, and a couple of Vietnamese cooking classes starting from VND645k (US$30) per person.

There is also a semi-covered swimming pool and a fully equipped gym at the bottom floor of the hotel; and the Lantana Spa offers a variety of services like massages, facials and manicures. It would be great if the hotel had bicycles too (considering it is a popular mode of transport to explore the old Hoi An town with); but I conveniently rented one from the restaurant next door.

At the End of the Day
I had a great couple of days in Hoi An. The ancient town was a wonder to explore and the food was delicious, but I believe that the Lantana Hoi An played a huge part as well. I was extremely happy with my hotel choice — I was impressed with the helpful staff, the comfortable and clean rooms, and all the convenience.

The best part? The hotel is so perfectly located that I could easily cycle (and walk) back and forth from the old town anytime I pleased. Can’t ask for a more excellent base!
