Staying Connected with Roaming Man Pocket Wifi (Review/Contest)

Almost everyone needs to stay connected nowadays. Always. And that’s why there are more and more demand for Wifi devices, especially when traveling out of the country. I usually just get a SIM card whenever I arrive at my destination, but it does not always work out — midnight arrivals, registration processes, store unavailability; especially when you’re jumping from country to country. So I’ve recently resorted to getting a pocket wifi for my travels — a small portable device that will keep you connected from the moment you touch down at your destination.

On my last trip to China (read about my adventures here), I used the Roaming Man Pocket Wifi.

Roaming Man

What is Roaming Man?
In short (and taking out all the confusing technology terms), Roaming Man provides you wifi rental service through a portable pocket wifi device that can be used when traveling. The brand is one of the business units under the telecommunications service provider, UCLOUDLINK from Hong Kong, China.

Roaming Man is SIM Free and uses the CloudSIM technology, which connects you to the fastest 4G network in the area you’re traveling to. They offer single country wifi packages as well as a combination of wifi packages for those who are country hopping — ranging from the 8 countries of South East Asia, the 6 countries of North East Asia (Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan); and even a Global 100 Countries (covering 100 countries worldwide), just in case you’re constantly on the go.

In Malaysia, you can pick up the device before you travel and return it upon coming home at the 2 major Kuala Lumpur airports — KLIA and KLIA2. They open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

KLIA – Lot No.12, Level 5, Departure Hall (between Secret Recipe and McDonalds).
KLIA2 – Level 3, Departure Hall, Public Concourse Area (near check-in counter Z).

Staying Connected on Your Travels with Roaming Man
Here’s just a little review of my experience using Roaming Man. I’ll be honest and say that it’s not the first pocket wifi I have used — I have actually tried about 3 other portable wifi devices prior to using Roaming Man. They all have their pros and cons of course, but I’ll only be talking about my views while using the Roaming Man portable wifi device.

Upon my arrival at KLIA2, it was easy to find the Roaming Man store as it is located on the same level as the Departure Hall. Pickup was easy and fuss free; and I really liked that the pouch and the wifi device is small and light enough to stuff into my handbag — I didn’t want any extra weight while traveling! Connection during my travels was pretty sporadic — I was traveling in China, and there’s always trouble when it comes to using my phone apps in China anyway. But the Roaming Man wifi device kept me connected most of the time (it can be used on 5 devices) — so I was constantly online on my iPhone and my laptop, and I could share it with my friends as well. The battery lasted the whole day too — and I was out for almost 12 hours a day.

All in all I had a pretty good experience using the Roaming Man pocket wifi — it kept me connected throughout my travels in China, and I was always contactable during my vacation (which isn’t always a good thing, actually — it’s a vacation)! But the best part of having my own wifi was that it saved me the trouble of constantly hunting for free wifi, and all that paperwork to get a SIM card!

Thanks RoamingMan for keeping me connected in China!

    • Hello! Because China bans all those apps, I still have to download VPN to log on to several of those sites.
